About this site

This is a website about art in public places in Singapore. We're offering you the chance to pass comments, make judgements, express opinions and help build a communal record of the changing urban environment in Singapore. Given the speed of change in the Singapore cityscape, a communal record like this seemed an interesting idea.

While this is a public resource, the materials are not copyright free. Please feel free to use this material for non-commercial use, with a credit to www.PublicArtSG. If you would like to make use of the images on this website for any other purpose, please contact peter [at symbol] nusantara [dot] com.

For a start, anyone can vote on the artworks or leave comments as well. We need some community authors who can help expand the database, add info and so on. If you are interested, please email to peter [at symbol] nusantara.com.

What's in it for you?

  1. Read and give your opinions
As a visitor, feel free to browse through the listings of (more or less) permanent public art works, (including the list of works now removed from public places), list of artists and the blog of temporary works. Use the star rankings in each entry to vote to or comment to express your opinion of particular works. Public artworks have been put in public spaces, so presumably public opinions about them are meant to matter. Because we've been getting some (nasty!) comment spam, we are now using Spam blocker service Mollom. So by posting a message, you accept that your message and other personal details about you will be analyzed and stored for anti-spam and quality monitoring purposes, in accordance with Mollom's privacy policy. As an alternative, you can register before you comment, using your Facebook login if you prefer.

  2. Post Flickr photos on the Singapore Public Art site
This site is linked up to the Singapore Public Art Group on popular community photosite Flickr.com. Contribute to that group, and then we can link up your photos to the relevant pages on the database. For example, some of the images here are courtesy of Flickr members like Chooyutshing.

  3. Other ways to help
This is non-commercial site, done essentially as a hobby and experiment by one individual (me, Peter Schoppert). I would be very happy if anyone else would like to help with this project in any way.

An important principle behind community sites like this one is that all contributions remain the responsibility of contributors.

*We will not use your registration info for any purpose other than maintaining the site, and you will not receive any emails unless you specifically request them.
